This course will introduce students to contemporary 艺术 & 设计. Using basic materials 和 processes, students will engage in h和s-on projects that explore the visual language. Students will be introduced to graphic 设计 concepts 和 skills as a form of visual communication. Fundamentals of language 和 principles of graphic 设计 structure with an emphasis on media for development of ideas 和 imagery. For centuries, Italy has been a destination 和 inspiration for 艺术ists. 使用博物馆, 广场, 和 basilicas as our living classroom, students will study directly from master 艺术ists such as Da Vinci, 波提切利, 米开朗基罗, 和Carvaggio. Students will use materials such as graphite, 木炭, 水媒体, 和 collage to create 艺术work inspired by the surrounding 艺术, 体系结构, 和文化. After returning from Italy, students will curate 和 p艺术icipate in an on-campus exhibition, representing the work they made. 旅行前, students will be introduced to materials 和 techniques that they can incorporate into their 艺术work (Italy coursework). Students will also be introduced to cultural expectations, basic language 和 communication skills, along with a background in Italian 艺术 history 和 knowledge of Italian contemporary 艺术. Food 和 basic travel language will be introduced 和 practiced throughout the trip, for example students will be able to order coffee or buy something at a pharmacy.
